"Matag Yuta Adunay Tanum"
Tanuman ang kayutaan aron kini magmabungahon
ug ang matag pamilya magpuyo sa hayag nga kaugmaon.
Hon. Corazon N. Malanyaon

Davao Oriental economy is heavily based on agriculture, which plays a vital role in the economic prosperity of the people. The need to reinvigorate the agricultural sector is more urgent today. Productivity has been stagnated, while population has continued to put pressure in the agricultural productivity which is the main cause of poverty among our rural farming sector.

Much of the present day problems facing our agriculture sector in the province are rooted in the neglect of attention of our agricultural potentials in the hands of our small farming households for its development and to search for the new sources of productivity mechanism in order to enhance productivity and income.

Simply put such approach identifies certain priority areas best suited for specific products based on agro-climatic suitability and availability of markets and consumptions needs such approach would ensure the efficient utilization of scares resources, it would ensure that farming households get a regular and sustainable income of our farmers and fisher folks and thus enable them to enjoy a better quality of life and without fear of being hungry.

Guided by our strong intentions, This program set out to achieve the twin goals:

1. Food sufficiency/security and increase income of farming sector
2. Accelerate agri-investment and development for sustained long term development of the agricultural sector.

The agri-industry program involves 3 major components

1. Pagkain at Kita Program
Enhancing food sufficiency and income of small farming and fishermen households
2. Agri- commercial production
Intensification of existing agri-products for commercial production
3. Agri-industry investment and development
Investment -processing and export

This program set a concrete measures and actions to carryout. It is premised on a strategy which focuses on public investments on areas where it is vitally needed.

My administration is fully committed to pursue this plan of action within the 3 year period (2007-2010). We will accelerate our internal resources, manpower and skills. In this endeavor, we also seek the collaboration and support from national government and other development partners.
