Nationwide, the province is rated as one of the top producer of rice of different varieties and of good quality. The famous “Banay-banay 7-tonner Rice” is produced in this province and the producer of the most volume of hybrid rice seeds, which supplies the entire country, is also located in this province.

Rice is the major staple food of the province. About 70% of the populace is rice-eaters and only 30% are corn-eaters. As of 2007, rice sufficiency level is pegged at 44% with about 28,555 MT deficits in the supply of rice. However, with the sufficiency plan of the province,
